President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany will arrive Nigeria today (Tuesday) 3-day state visit that will take him to Abuja and Lagos.
President Bola Tinubu will host the German leader in the State House where both leaders will discuss bilateral issues and other mutually beneficial engagements.
According to a statement from the German Embassy in Abuja, Dr. Steinmeier will also engage with the President of the Economic Community of West African States Commission (ECOWAS), Dr. Alieu Touray.
According to the statement, the visiting German leader will proceed to Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos where he will meet with business and cultural leaders including Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Dr. Nike Okundaye.
The statement reads in part:
“The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow, 10 December. He will stay until the 12th of December 2024 While in Abuja, President Steinmeier will meet with the President of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Tinubu as well as with the President of the Commission of Economic Community of West African States, His Excellency Dr. Alieu Touray.
“The German President will then proceed to Lagos, where he will engage with business representatives, visit a start-up hub and meet with members of Nigeria’s culture sector and civil society, like Dr. Nike Okundaye, popularly known as Mama Nike of the Nike Art Gallery and the legendary author and Nobel laureate for Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka.
“There will also be an opportunity to tour the city of Lagos and gain insights into the urban development of a megacity, including environmental and social challenges
“President Steinmeier will be accompanied by a business delegation of CEOs and high-ranking board members of some of Germany’s most successful companies in the fields of IT, high-tech and energy – an indication of the rising interest of German businesses in opportunities to invest in Nigeria.”
