Alhassan Yahaya, the National Deputy President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has been elected the new National President of the union.
Yahaya won the election with 436 votes, defeating Dele Atunbi, the outgoing National Treasurer, who secured 97 votes, and Garba Muhammad, who polled 39 votes.
A total of 602 delegates from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including the Federal Capital Territory, gathered in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, to elect the new leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
Yahaya and other elected executive members are to steer the ship of the union for the next three years.
He takes over from Comrade Chris Isiguzo who tenure is serving out his tenure.
Earlier Comrade Isiguzo had assured delegates of a smooth transition of power, reiterating the his resolve to not interfere with the process of transmission of power to a new administration.
