A DHL cargo plane has crashed near the Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-476(SF). R/n. EC-MFE. belonging to DHL crashed while on final
approach to land at the Airport. One person have been reported dead while three others were injured, one of them in “critical”condition.
The 31 year old aircraft with four crew members onboard had departed from Leipzig Airport on a scheduled cargo run, the two and a half hour flight was uneventful according to sources, right up to point when the aircraft was on final approach to land at the airport when, according to eye witnesses it just “fell out of the sky.”
Lithuanian State broadcaster, LRT has confirmed the death on one of the crew members.
The plan crashed next to an open car park in a residential area, but no casualties were recorded on the ground.
Crash investigators have arrived at the scene of the accident, as reports say the aircraft was totally destroyed.
It was also learnt that weather at the time was low cloud with below freezing temperatures.
