Speaker Abbas Congratulates Balarabe Abbas on Successful Confirmation as Minister
The Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal on his confirmation as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on Tuesday forwarded the name of Balarabe Abbas to the Senate and two others for confirmation as members of his cabinet. The Kaduna nominee was successfully screened and confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday.
Born on February 5, 1958 in Kaduna State, Malam Balarabe Abbas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1981 and also holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the same institution in 1986.
He served Nigeria in different capacities as a Special Assistant to the Minister of Education between 1999 and 2001 and as a Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Defence from 2001 to 2003.
Malam Balarabe Abbas equally worked as a Special Assistant to the President in the Federal Capital Territory, and as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory among other positions held, from July 2003 until July 2007.
He served as the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government under the immediate past administration of Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufa’i between 2015 and 2023. He was reappointed into the same position by the incumbent Kaduna State governor, Senator Uba Sani.
Speaker Abbas expressed happiness over the confirmation of Malam Balarabe as a minister by the Nigerian Senate, noting that he would justify his appointment.
The Speaker also expressed confidence that Balarabe Abbas, a seasoned public servant, would bring his wealth of experience to bear in his new national assignment.
He also thanked President Tinubu for finding Balarabe Abbas worthy of serving the nation as a minister.
He described Malam Balarabe Abbas as a patriotic Nigerian who would not let the president and Nigerians down. The Speaker prayed for Allah to guide Malam Balarabe Abbas in discharging his new duties.
