Hundreds of indigenes of Zamfara State on Friday morning besieged the entrance to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with placards calling for the investigation of the former governor of the state, Bello Matawalle.
Matawalle is Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence.
The protesters who said they were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said they were at the EFCC office under the auspices of the APC Loyalists Forum (ALF).
The protesters said they were calling on the anti-graft agency to act on a plethora of petitions already submitted to the EFCC by various individuals and groups from Zamfara State.
Part of the petitions according to the protesters including an alleged diversion of N70 billion state fund during his four year tenure.
The Director of Public Affairs of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren later received a letter from the protesters and assured them that the commission was determined to pursue all corruption cases to its logical conclusion.
