#Kwibuka 30: Rwanda Remembers Genocide Victims 30 Years After

World leaders on Sunday gathered in Kigali, the sparkling capital of Rwanda to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1994 genocide that saw more than 800,000 Tutsi killed in an ethnic purge that has become the most horrific genocide of modern times.

Amongst leaders that joined President Paul Kagame and his cabinet are former United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Anan, former American President, Bill Clinton and many others from across the world.

President Kagame lit the “Flame of Hope” christened “Kwibuka” 30 as leaders watched is a sober event that brought tears.

Kagame said, “Rwandans will never understand why any country would remain intentionally vague about who was targeted in the genocide. Such ambiguity is, in fact, a form of denial, which is a crime in and of itself, and Rwanda will always challenge it.”
