Edo Assembly Commences Impeachment Process Against Edo Dpty Gov
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has been served impeachment noticr by the members of the Edo State House of Assembly
The impeachment process was announced at the plenary oother House on Wednesday.
Reading the impeachment notice, at the plenary the Majority Leader ,Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian announced that 21 members of the House signed the impeachment notice out of the 24 members of the House.
Aiguobarueghian, said the petition was dated March 5, 2024, noting that the number of members who signed the petition were more than the two-third requirement stipulated in Section 188 (2a) of the constitution for the commencement of impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor.
The Speaker of the House, Hon Blessing Agbebaku acknowledged the receipt of the petition, said the petition said that the petition against the deputy governor was based on two grounds which wwere not disclosed.
Shuaibu who emerged as a factional governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been enmeshed in crisis with his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Deputy governor has threatened to sue both the party and the members of the congress committee of the PDP whom he accused of haven been compromised.
The Speaker after the petition was laid in the House directed the clerk of the house, Yahaya Omogbai, to serve the impeachment notice on Shaibu who has seven days to reply to the allegations leveled against him.
