FRSC Will Continue to Impund Offenders’ Vehicles- Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu

The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified that it has not stopped its operatives from impounding offenders’ vehicles.

In statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the spokesman of the Corps, Bisi Kazeem, it was noted that the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu had issued a directive that officers of the corps should no longer be placed in an offenders and that directive was misconstrued to mean a complete ban on impoundment of offender vehicles.

However, the statement clarified that an initial directive of the Corps Marshal which was contained in a memo dated Sept. 12 2023, with reference FRSC/HQ/OPS/94/VOLXVI/094. was “wrongly couched” which made some section of the public to believe that there had been a complete ban on impounding offender’s vehicle.

According to the Corps spokesman:

“For the avoidance of doubt, the corps marshal’s directive was a correction of an earlier one saying impoundment of vehicles have been banned captured under paragraph III of the aforementioned memo.

“However, the corps marshal only banned placing of staff in offenders vehicles to escort for impoundment by patrol teams under any guise of traffic infraction committed with immediate effect.

“The corps regrets any confusion caused by the earlier memo, and would like to inform the public that the current position of the corps was as outlined in the corrected directive.”
