20 Years After Gbajabiamila Finally Set to Get Replacement in the House of Reps

After 20 years in the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila may have finally got a replacement for the Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

Mr. Fuad Olukayode Laguda was on Saturday elected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its candidate for the February 3, 2024 scheduled bye-election to fill the seat vacated by the immediate past Speaker, who is now the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Laguda defeated three other contestants who squared up to him at the APC primary election held at the  Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos.

The other candidates including  Kabir Lawal and  Raheem Owokoniran who were both former two-term members of the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as Jamila Omobolanle scored zero votes each as Laguda garnered all 30 available delegate votes to defeat his opponents

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was elected into the House of Representatives in 2003 and he retained the seat for five tenures and also won a record sixth term in the 2023 general elections.

Femi Gbajabiamila is second longest serving member of the House of Representatives as only Hon. Nicholas Mutu, who represents Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in Delta State in the House  who was elected into the Green Chamber in 1999 stands ahead of the President’s Chief of Staff as the longest serving Nigerian lawmaker in history.
