FOOTBALL: Nigeria Send Its ‘3rd Eleven in Football Administration,’ NFF Remain Illegal Body- Segun Odegbami
Nigerian football icon, Segun Odegbami has said that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is not recognised by law in Nigeria.
Odegbami who featured on Channels TV programme, Sunrise Daily on Friday was reacting to the resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau led NFF board.
Odegbami said that, the “NFF is not recognised by law in Nigeria, it is like association of associations.
Continuing, the 1980 AFCON winner reiterated that, “for over 10 years there has been a court judgement that states that NFF is illegal, it is the NFA that is known to law in Nigeria”
Speaking on the general fortune of Nigerian football administration, which many Nigerians believe is that bane of the game in the country, Odegbami said that the country rather sends its “ 3rd eleven in football administration.”
Gusau announced his resignation at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, ending a situation that ended his three years and 11 months in charge of Nigerian football.
The downfall of the board followed speculations and subtle accusations that have trailed the tenure of the board and its impact on Nigerian football.
Speaking at his resignation press conference, Gusau said, “I have decided to resign my position as the President of NFF, after consultations with my family and friends.
“I have also advised my board members, those who are willing, to resign as well,”
In 2012, Justice Donatus the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ruled that both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), are illegal bodies not recognized by law.
