IYD: NYO Endorses President Tinubu for Second Term, Harps on Peaceful Elections in 2027

As the world commemorates International Youth Day (IYD), the Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO), has called for sustained investment in young people, noting that only well developed young people can develop a nation, even as the organisation declared its support for President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s efforts to empower youths.

Addressing a conference  with the theme, The theme of this year’s celebration, “The Roles of Nigerian Youths in Consolidating the Gains of Democracy in Nigeria,” organised to mark the day in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Executive President of NYO, Comrade Okorie C. Okorie stated that, the 2026 IYD, was not just a mere celebration, but “a moment to celebrate the energy, creativity, courage and resilience of Nigerian youths and, more importantly, to reflect on our responsibilities as the largest and most dynamic segment of our nation’s population.”

Speaking on the role of the Nigerian youth in advancing democratic governance, Comrade Okorie called on young people embrace peace and constructive political participation and never yield themselves as tools for political violence.

He said, “We must learn to disagree without becoming enemies. We must learn to campaign without destroying one another. We must learn to support our preferred candidates without insulting or attacking those who support different candidates.

“We must make elections a contest of ideas, competence, vision and character. The Nigerian youth must reject every attempt to use our energy, numbers and vulnerability as instruments of political violence.

In his remarks, the Minister  Minister for youth development , Mr. Ayodele Olawande who was represented by Comrade Dotun Omoleye call on Nigerian Youth to “seize the opportunities provided by various programmes created by the federal government to enhance their creativity and the Nigerian economy.”

 

 

The Highpoint of the event was the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s  re-election for second term by the NYO.

Announcing the endorsement, Comrade Okorie C. Okorie declared that the decision was borne out of conviction and need to sustain the youth-centred programmes and policies of President Tinubu’s administration.

He said:

“It is in the spirit of democratic participation, political conviction and our assessment of the direction of the Federal Government that the Nigeria Youth Organisation hereby declares its support and endorsement of the second-term presidential bid of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the 2027 presidential election.

 

“This endorsement is a political expression of our organisation’s confidence in the President’s leadership and in the continuity of the reform agenda of his administration.

 

“Our endorsement is not intended to undermine the constitutional rights of other political parties, candidates or citizens who hold different opinions. Rather, it represents our democratic choice and our belief that the President deserves the opportunity to consolidate programmes and reforms already initiated by his administration.

Earlier, the  Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities Comrade  Mohammed Abba Isa who was represented by ade lanre oloyede congratulated the Nigerian Youth for being resilient in the quest for better society. The SSA said that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has enhanced opportunities for all Nigerian youths irrespective of their abilities or disability.

Other top government officials who attended the event include, the Chairman of Federal Character Commission, who was represented by a Federal Commisioner, Hon. Peter Eze and Nze Magnus Eze, the Special Assitant on Communications and New Media to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
