Suspected Fulani armed herdsmen have again unleashed terror on Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue state, barely 48 hours after a similar attack left several persons killed in the same council area.
In the latest attack, the armed herdsmen in the early hours of Tuesday invaded Ogobia and Ondo communities in Ugboju district within Otukpo LGA. According to accounts from residents who have fled their homes, the attackers arrived and started “shooting in all directions” leaving resident traumatised and running in all directions to save their lives.
Confirming the latest attack, a native of the community and Labour Party (LP) House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 elections, Mr. Jimmy Nart, in an alert message shared on his social media page stated, “I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself.”
The latest attack is happening barely 48 hours after Otukpo Nobi in same Otukpo LGA was attacked, where 16 persons reportedly lost their lives and many others hospitalised.
A social activist and journalist, Prince Yemi Itodo in a statement also shared on his social media handle on Tuesday morning called on security operatives including the military who is said to have two checkpoints around the community under siege to intervene and save the people.
Itodo wrote, “I learnt Ogobia and another community in Ugboju are currently under serious attacks this morning by the Fulani t3rrorists. But I suppose the 2 military checkpoints in Ogobia should have helped mitigate any offensive, more so that the Defence Minister has given express order. Pls local security should help the communities fast.”
At press time there has not been any comment from Benue State Government or any of the security agencies.
