Thugs Set Rivers House of Assembly Ablaze
The Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt was on Sunday rocked by an explosion.
According eyewitness account, some people suspected to be political thugs invaded the assembly complex at about 9.30 pm on Sunday and threw several explosives inside the plenary chambers.
The House has been crisis since some people the state parliament alleged that some lawmakers were making moves to remove the state’s governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara.
A staff of a member the House who spoke to FACTSHEET said that he heard that some members were collecting signatures to remove the House Leader, Hon. Eddison Ehie.
Ehie is a staunch supporter of the state governor and has been allegedly seen as the man blocking the commencement of impeachment process against Governor Fubara.
The eyewitness told FACTSHEET that “the whole chamber was destroyed even though fire service came on time.”
The Assembly has now been cordoned off by heavy detachment of security including the Police, military and operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS).
There has not been official reaction from security agencies or the Rivers State Government at press time.
