The leadership team comprises Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

The presiding officers were not accidental beneficiaries of political arrangements; they emerged through a carefully negotiated national consensus designed to ensure balance, inclusion, and continuity in governance.

Since assuming office, the lawmakers have played significant roles in shaping legislative priorities, strengthening institutional frameworks, guiding national policy conversations, and advancing key reforms within the National Assembly.

Sources within political circles noted that President Bola Tinubu is not inclined to alter the current leadership structure in the National Assembly, as the existing presiding officers are seen as critical to sustaining legislative reforms and institutional stability.

Under their stewardship, the legislature has maintained strategic cooperation in advancing national priorities while preserving the independence and relevance of parliament. Their experience, institutional memory, and understanding of ongoing legislative processes are viewed by many stakeholders as essential at this stage of national development.

There is also growing support for sustaining the existing power-sharing arrangement that produced the current leadership configuration. The political balancing structure that ensured the emergence of the President from the South-West and the Vice President from the North-East, alongside the zoning of principal National Assembly offices, was designed to promote equity, national cohesion, and political inclusiveness.

Maintaining this arrangement is seen not only as a matter of political stability but also as a demonstration of respect for existing agreements and the spirit of fairness underpinning Nigeria’s democratic system.

As political consultations intensify, the successful screening and growing acceptance of the four presiding officers have further fueled expectations that the APC may ultimately settle for continuity in the leadership of the National Assembly.
