A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted bail to former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai in his ongoing trial on corruption charges.
The court proceedings was held behind closed doors as journalists were barred by the presiding judge from accessing the court.
Confirming the bail, the son of the embattled former, Bello El-Rufai, a member of the National Assembly who was present in court. He said the family was already working to meet the conditions attached to the release.

“We are happy that Malam has been granted bail. The conditions will be met because we believe in the rule of law,” Hon El -Rufai stated.
Legal representatives declined immediate comment, noting that the lead counsel would address the media at a later time.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, also confirmed the development, acknowledging that specific conditions were tied to the bail but expressing confidence they would soon be fulfilled.
The case follows the arraignment of El-Rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over alleged offences. A previous hearing had been adjourned, with the bail decision initially scheduled for April 21, 2026.
