Wike Backs DAAR’s Ambitious Media City Project in Asokoro, Promises FCT Support

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the readiness of the FCT Administration to partner with DAAR Communications Plc on the development of a pioneering “Media City” in the upscale Asokoro District of Abuja.
Wike gave the assurance when the Board and Management of DAAR Communications Plc, led by its Chairman, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., paid him a courtesy visit to discuss the proposed project.
Describing the Media City initiative as bold and transformative, the Minister expressed optimism that the project could redefine Nigeria’s media landscape if successfully executed. He noted that the development would not only serve as a landmark in the nation’s capital but also position Abuja as a hub for modern media production.
“I want to partner with you over your ambitious media city project. It’s very ambitious but with commitment, you can achieve it. It will be the first of its kind in Nigeria if it materializes,” Wike stated.
Addressing existing concerns, the Minister directed the Department of Land Administration to resolve lingering issues surrounding land documentation for DAAR Communications’ Plot 4241 in Asokoro, particularly those relating to land size and perimeter fencing.
Wike also used the opportunity to call for greater professionalism within the media industry. He urged journalists to prioritize accuracy and objectivity, stressing the importance of verifying information before publication.
“It is important that our reporters should go and make research and find out if what they’ve heard or what has been said is correct or not,” he said, while cautioning against the spread of misleading information.
He further challenged media practitioners to play a more active role in holding political actors accountable, emphasizing the need for due process and strict adherence to established rules.
In his remarks, Dokpesi highlighted that the proposed Media City is designed to upgrade media production technology, stimulate tourism, and create opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises within the FCT.
He added that the project aligns with broader efforts to modernize Nigeria’s broadcasting industry and foster economic growth through creative and digital innovation.
The FCT Administration has in recent times received commendation for its infrastructure drive across key districts, particularly in Asokoro District and Guzape District, as part of efforts to enhance the capital’s global appeal.
