JUST IN: National Assembly Suspends Short Recess, to Resume on Tuesday

The National Assembly has announced the full resumption of plenary for the Senate and House of Representatives.

According to  statement issued on Sunaday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, “the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene plenary sessions at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 17th February 2026.”

The statement called on all lawmakers to adjust their schedule to accommodate the scheduled resumption of plenary.

“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are hereby notified and advised to take note of the resumption date and time. Lawmakers are urged to reschedule their engagements accordingly to ensure full attendance, as both Chambers are expected to deliberate and take crucial decisions during the session.”

“the Office of the Clerk emphasized the importance of members’ presence, noting that significant legislative matters will be addressed upon resumption,” the statement read.

Though the House of Representatives had earlier scheduled February 17, for resumption, the Senate was initially scheduled to resume plenary on February 24, 2026 haven embarked on a short recess to allow its various standing committee to carry carry out oversight duties on the 2026 national budget.
