JUST IN: NAFDAC Commences Enforcement of Ban on Sachet Alcohol

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration (NAFDAC), has announced the continuation of enforcement of the ban of sachet alcoholic beverages across the country.

The agency had in December 2025 suspended the enforcement after the Senate intervened to enable producers transition to production in bigger containers.

“NAFDAC is enforcing the ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small PET or glass bottles below 200ml, in line with the Senate resolution and its mandate to protect public health,: part of the statement read.

The agency debunked rumours that it was closing down factories, insisting that the enforcement was strictly targeted at the small packages less than 200ml which it says makes alcohol readily accessible to minors because they could easily conceal the containers.

According to the agency, “the measure targets harmful packaging practices that make alcohol easily accessible to minors and vulnerable groups. No alcohol-producing company has been shut down; only specific pack sizes are affected, while larger, approved packaging remains permitted.”

The agency reiterated that the measure was aimed at “safeguarding children and young people from the harmful effects of alcohol” noting that the move is supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,10053
