The Southeast Caucus of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, the caucus announced the endorsement at a stakeholders meeting held in Enugu on Saturday.
The endorsement of the president followed the adoption of a motion moved by the Southeast Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative and former President of the Senate, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, the motion was seconded by co- former Senate President, Sen. Ken Nnamani.
Governors, elected officials, appointees and major stakeholder of the APC from the five states of the Southeast gathered at the International Conference Centre, Enugu to evaluate the current political discourse in the region as the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
Last week, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi drew crowds of political gladiators to the Nike Lake Resort Enugu where he officially declared that he has joined the Coalition Movement being spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The declaration of Mr. Obi in Enugu, the political capital of the Southeast is seen in many political quarters as a direct “affront” on some Southeast political gladiators who have continued to say that the massive followership of Mr. Peter Obi in the region has been diminished by the massive defection of many Southeast politicians including the governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah into the ruling party.
Obi had declared that the opposition would deploy all “lawful” means to resist rigging in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement of President Tinubu by the APC Southeast Caucus is seen as a counterforce against the Peter Obi onslaught in the region.
