The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has clarified that the Tanimu Turaki led factional National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is illegitimate and cannot be recognised by the electoral umpire.

The position of INEC was contained in a letter dated December 22, 2025, signed by INEC Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
INEC citing subsisting court judgements stated that it could not act on demands to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers said to have been elected at the National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
The Governor Seyi Makinde led faction of the PDP has been making frantic efforts to take control of the PDP despite obvious lacunae in the processes leading to the ill-fated Ibadan convention.
Two Federal High Court judgements had ordered the stoppage of the convention for not meeting the party’s constitutional requirements as well as the electoral law.
