The lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has pleaded for clemency for the convicted leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Hon Aguocha who was at the court for the judgement while speaking after Justice James Omotosho convicted Kanu on all seven count charges including teroorism (count one) pleaded that the judge “ shows mercy and temper justice with mercy” considering that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been undergoing trial for nearly 10 years.
Hon Aguocha told the court that, “ He [Kanu] is my brother, he is my friend, we attended primary and secondary school together,” and reminded the court that Kanu has been taken away from his family and community for close to 10 years and therefore has suffered tremendous psychological deprivation.
He told the court that Nigeria is currently troubled and therefore, the judge must take into account the issues of the day in sentencing Kanu.
