Tinubu Speaks on Trump’s Designation of Nigeria as CPC, Says FG Committed to Ending Terrorism in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians and the international community that his government is determined to defeat terrorism in all it forms in Nigeria.

Tinubu gave the assurances at the Aso Rock Villa as he convened the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Thursday.

The President also stated that his government is committed to strengthening diplomatic relations with Nigeria’s global partners.

According to him, “We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism. . The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose guided by the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria.”

The president said that despite the various challenges facing Nigeria, the global community contines to have confidence in the country.

Citing example of the confidence in Nigeria’s economy, President Tinubu revealed that, “Despite political headwinds and fears, we will continue to engage with our partners.

“The success of the $2.3bn Eurobond, which was oversubscribed, is a sign of confidence in our economy

“The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose.”

The President’s comment is the first time he is personally speaking on the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by President Donald Trump of the US. A declaration that has set the country, especially senior government officials on overdrive.

The US President declared  Nigeria a CPC on the grounds of the unabated mass killing of Christians, especially in the northern region of the country by Fulani terrorists. The government while acknowledging the situation, however, denies that only Christians were being targeted. Nigerian government maintains that the terrorists attacks both Christians and Muslims.
