A Beechcraft 1900D. aircraft has crashed in South Sudan killing 20 people while a lone survivor battles for his life in a hospital
The aircraft with registration no, 5X-RHB operated by Light Air Services according to sources had taken off from Unity Oil Field Airport, South Sudan, and was enroute the country’s capital, Juba when it crashed shortly after take-off.
A source who spoke to the media said that, “The feederliner was operating a scheduled passenger service to Juba Intl. Airport and departed with a total of 21 pax.onboard inc. two crew members, shortly after taking off witnesses on the ground stated that one of its wings suffered a structural failure causing the aircraft to descend rapidly until it impacted open ground and then flipping over onto its back where it came to rest. There was a brief flash fire as both turboprops were torn away and this quickly subsided, as can be seen the forward section of the cabin and flight deck bore the brunt of the impact.”
It was gathered that locals had rushed to the wreckage of the doomed aircraft to assist the trapped passengers, but only two passengers were pulled out alive and rushed to a local hospital where one succumbed to his injuries while one identified as an Indian national is currently battling for his life.
