Governor Mbah Creates 10 New Urban Areas in Enugu State, Promises Transparent Land Administration

 

 

The Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah on Thursday signed  an Executive Order to regulate land use in the state.

The Executive Order 1, of 2025 also created new urban areas within strategic locations in the state.

In a statement he personally signed after issuing the Executive Order, Governor Mbah clarified that, “Under this Executive Order, the entire Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Udi, Nkanu West, Nkanu East, and Nsukka LGAs are now classified as urban areas. Additionally, specific parts of Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Isi-Uzo, Oji-River, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs have been designated as urban areas.”

Speaking on the inherent benefit of the Executive Order Mbah said that the new law “aligns with our vision to make land transactions transparent, efficient, and corruption-free. It complements the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS), which we launched recently to streamline applications for land titles and administrative processes.”

He also said that with the new “regulation, there shall be no more hidden charges in land transactions. Also, double allocations and land grabbing are a thing of the past. And there will be clear timelines and fees for all land-related applications. Residents in newly designated urban areas can now apply for Certificates of Occupancy, enhancing their property rights.”

 

The governor promised that his “administration remains committed to creating an environment that fosters ease of doing business and promotes economic development,” in the state.
