2027: NYO Challenges INEC on Early Preparations, Says Nigerian Youth Won’t Tolerate Excuses, Rigging

 

The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin early preparations for the forthcoming 2027 general elections as Nigerians will not accept any excuses.

In a world press conference addressed in Abuja on Tuesday by the leadership of the organisation led by its  National Executive President , Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, the NYO warned that Nigerian youth  will not tolerates any lacunas in the all-important elections.

Speaking during a press conference, Okorie said: “I stand before you today on behalf of the Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) to address critical issues concerning the future of our nation, as we approach the 2027 General Elections.”

 

“We believe that a free and fair election is the cornerstone of our democracy, and we will not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in 2027.”

“Let me be clear: any attempt by any individual, institution, or group to rig the forthcoming elections will be met with strong and united resistance from the teeming Nigerian youths. Enough is enough.”

 

Comrade Okorie also urged INEC to immediately commence continuous voter registration  to accommodate Nigerians that has attained voting age. “. They’re to commence a nationwide voter’s registration exercise to accommodate new voters especially those who have just reached the eligible voting age of 18 so that every qualified citizen can participate in the 2027 general elections,” Okorie urged INEC.

The NYO also urged the electoral umpire to “take immediate steps to register new political parties that meets up with the established requirements of the Commission as such will ensure a more inclusive and competitive electoral process.”

The organisation also called on political parties to clearly state their programmes in the area of youth inclusion and welfare as the election period approaches.

The NYO President said, “Political parties must roll out comprehensive programmes that address the aspirations of Nigerian youths. Parties that fail to do so will be ignored—it is no longer business as usual.”

“Any chairman who fails to attend this meeting will not only demarket their party but will also face the collective decision of Nigerian youths to shun and vote against such a political party.”

Speaking on Security and youth unemployment, the organisation called on President Bola Tinubu and state governors to initiate programmes and policies that will create enabling environment that can create decent jobs for teeming Nigerian youths.

The NYO also called on President Bola Tinubu to correct the omission of Nigerian youth in the in award of national honours by the federal government by identifying 20 young Nigerians that have excelled in their various endevours and confer national honours on them.

According to the Comrade Okorie, “We call on the government at all levels to create decent job opportunities for Nigerian youths. At the same time, we urge our youths to embrace self-reliance and entrepreneurship as pathways to economic empowerment.

 

“The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu awarded National Honours to some distinguished Nigerians during the 2025 Democracy Day Celebrations but unfortunately omitted Nigerian youths who have made significant contributions to national developments.

 

“We most profoundly request His Excellency Mr. President to correct this oversight immediately by recognizing and awarding national honours to at least 20 outstanding Nigerian youths who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavor.”

Also speaking, National Vice President for the South East Zone, Prince Fortune Chinonso, said the 2027 elections would not be business as usual.

 

He said, “Nigerian youths will no longer allow themselves to be used by so-called politicians.”

 

“This time, we are fully committed, and we stand for credible and transparent elections in 2027.”
