FG Set to Pay 3 Years Salaries of Unity School Teachers

The minister of Education, Prof. Mamman Tahir has given assurances that the 36 months salaries owed some teachers of Unity Schools across the country will now be paid.

The minister gave the indication on Tuesday at the ongoing EdTech Conference organised by Mastercard Foundation in Abuja.

The teachers numbering 1800 are those employed in the service between 2018 and 2020.

Reports indicate that the salaries of the teachers have been withheld due to logistic challenges encountered at the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The minister announced that all the bureaucratic issues that affected their salary payment have been resolved by the ministry assuring that their files were already before the Federal ministry of Finance for further action.

Mamman told NAN that, “The issue of the teachers’ salary is already with the Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance. So hopefully, they will be paid.

“I can’t tell exactly when their money will be paid. We don’t pay in the Ministry of Education. But we have done the paperwork. It is already in Finance. Hopefully, very soon, they will get their money.”
