Appeal Court Affirms Election of Imo Federal Lawmaker

The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has affirmed the nomination and subsequent election Honourable Emeka Martins Chinedu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the lawmaker representating Ahiazu/Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The court in a unanimous judgement read by Justice Biobele Georgewill, the Chairman of the 3-man panel dismissed the appeals filed by the duo of  Nnanna Igbokwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Darlington Amaechi of the Labour Party (LP).
The appellate court held that the appeals lacked merit and therefore could not void the election of the PDP candidate.
Earlier at the Imo State National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal Hon. Chinedu’s election was challenged on the ground that he was not validly nominated by his party, the PDP. The tribunal, however, upheld his election on the ground that both the APC and LP candidates lacked the ground to challenge the internal affairs of the PDP.
