18 million Tricyle, Okada Operators in Nigeria Set to Get Central Database
Commercial Tricycles and motorcycle operators in Nigeria have revealed that they are on the verge of creating a central database for all their members in the country.
The group under the umbrella of National Commercial Tricycle, Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (NATOMORAS) over the weekend launched their data capture initiative in Abuja.
In the event that took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Garki, Abuja, the National President of the association, Alhaji Usman Buba Gwoza stated that they are embarking on the database development drive in order to secure the safety and smooth operations of the activities of their members.
According to him, the initiative was in collaboration with IYKON Global Foundation (IGF).
In his welcome address, Gwoza said that “we are committed to the safety of all our passengers and henceforth, with our database now set, we shall account for the actions of our real members.”
Speaking on the significance of the event, the founder of IYKON Global Foundation, Chief Ikechukwu Nwonu during his presentation said that “if our Okada and tricycle riders can have their details captured and stored, it will now be possible to locate errant operators and also protect the operators because they play key role in transportation in Nigeria.”
“You know that these people in their millions across Nigeria are bread winners in families, they are fathers, brothers and sons too, so as they serve the public, they should be protected because they are contributing to the growth of the economy through their work and the taxes they pay.”
The event which attracted top government functionaries including representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of FCT, Ministry of Special Duties and the Ekiti State Government also featured paper presentations on security, safe transportation, insurance and anti drug abuse.
Earlier, a technical consultant to the association told the audience that NATOMORAS members across Nigeria are about 18 million and that if the association successfully pushes through with the database development they will become one of the most formidable associations in Nigeria with many benefits.
